Light hearted one turning into a depressing one
Hmm it is kinda edgy but then again so much good art still is... I think if you do it right it will be good enough. I cant really think of anything to add to that though.

I'm thinking a very happy little girl in a field of chopped off heads while she holds a bloody butcher's knife. The sun is shining, and a worm is even poking out of the eye socket of one of the heads with a smiley face. And it's all cartoony. Though, I feel that'd be too edgy, and is missing a point.
